Flooding - an issue of great concern
Several SPJARA residents were badly affected by flooding in June 2016.
This is a worrying repeat from the flash floods in 2004 and 2007 that affected various parts of Cheltenham.
Since June 2016, SPJARA residents have been working with Severn Trent Water to find out the root causes of the flood damage. As an example, three times subsequently, Painswick Road has been dug up by Severn Trent Water in order to repair the broken storm drain in 3 different sections under the road.
This is only part of the problem.
Some road drains, which are the responsibility of Cheltenham Borough Council, are blocked or have inadequate egress, meaning surface water on the roads cannot be discharged quickly enough.
