SPJARA and the new Data Protection Rules
In May 2018 new rules come into force applying to all organisations which collect or handle personal data. SPJARA is covered by these changes so we need to ensure full transparency on what is held and to be accountable for the way we use your personal data.
So from now onwards we will only keep personal data on current members of the society consisting of names and addresses, plus telephone numbers and email addresses. (And if your membership lapses we will only keep these details for one more year after expiry). These details will be held securely, but let us know if you wish SPJARA not to hold your email address. In addition, we will no longer collect and keep copies of standing orders for members who choose to pay their subscriptions that way, but will ask you to send the forms directly to your own bank.
We will use your data to provide you, as members, with information connected with SPJARA such as our newsletters and notice and records of SPJARA meetings and events. We may occasionally send you information about other local events which we feel may be of interest to SPJARA members. We will not give your details to any other organisation.
When you first join, or when you renew your membership, we will explain these commitments and the way we intend to use the data. If any member wishes, at any time, to see what personal data we hold about them, or wishes to seek removal or correction of any data held in our records they may do so by contacting the Membership Secretary on [email protected]
